Windsor’s ‘Glorious Past’ celebrated in new book

Through the veil of years, faces from a Windsor long ago stare back at you like it was yesterday.

Some of the images in Windsor Then, a new book of 138 vintage photographs, are so vivid and brimming with life you feel you could step right into them.

Like the picture that graces the cover — a view from the foot of Ouellette Avenue looking south from the old ferry dock. It was taken in 1904 by an unknown photographer and shows a row of buildings on either side between the river and Riverside Drive that are long gone. Up a block, at the intersection of Riverside and Ouellette, a trolley glides by while a banner in the distance reminds shoppers the races are on later in the day.
